Currently planned trials
Amazon is beginning a Phase I/II study to test the safety and efficacy of its Botanical Drug
Product AMZ0026 in pre-symptomatic HIV-positive patients undergoing no other
anti-retroviral therapies.
Study Design: Phase I/II, six month, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study
Planned Sample Size: 32 subjects (16 / treatment arm)
Objectives/Outcomes: To
evaluate whether AMZ0026 in subjects with WHO stage I HIV, is safe, tolerable
and can result in the primary outcome of increased CD4 counts, and secondary outcomes of decreased viral loads, increased CD4/CD8 ratios
and enduring efficacy upon post-treatment follow-up relative to placebo.
